Estate Agents "For Sale" boards

Once again, an estate agent has placed a "For Sale" board on the Donaghadee Road opposite Cove Bay.

Other agents have previously acknowledged and accepted residents complaints that these extra boards are unsightly, illegal, unwanted, free advertisements for the agent. Boards were removed, and, in recognition the Groomsport Community website: www.covebay.net added a Property page listing properties for sale with a direct link to estate agent websites.

Why has this agent ignored residents wishes?

Mrs Rosalind Niblock asking for help tracing her husbands relatives who came from Groomsport

Rosalind Niblock writes: I am writing from Australia and I am wondering if you may be able to help me.

I have been trying to trace my husbands family tree and came across your web site. My husbands father John Niblock was born in Groomsport in 1895. His parents being John Niblock and Fanny nee Jackson.

From what I can gather both father and son were mariners and worked for the merchant navy. I have come across a brick wall trying to find their naval records.

I thought on the off chance you may know if there are any descendents of this family who may be still living in Groomsport ?

House Numbers in Cove Bay

Has anyone ever complained about the difficulty of finding Cove Hollow (odd numbers)?

Any time I order a taxi or pizza delivery, etc…, people seem to have great difficulty in finding my house. There seems to be some confusion as the even numbers of Cove Hollow are on a different street to the odd numbers.

I even spoke to someone who used SATNAV to find Cove Hollow but it only led him to Cove Avenue.

Do you think it would be feasible for a street sign to be erected at the junction where the odd numbers of Cove Hollow start? Maybe something like:

Cove Hollow
(odd numbers 1 – 45)

Who would be responsible for signage, MM Group or the Council?

I know it seems a bit silly but it’s getting to the point now where every time I am waiting for a delivery or expecting guests who have not been to the area before, it’s guaranteed that I will get a phone call because they cannot find the house.

Enjoying an Allotment

One of the great joys of an allotment is spending time there, and feeling the pleasure of your own personal retreat from everyday life. It is also great meeting people at the plots and talking to them; about life, how things are growing and simply enjoying a shared sense of the earth. Slowly but surely, my allotment partner and I are getting our plot into shape. There are still swathes covered in weeds but there are also areas planted up with tomatoes, leeks, beetroot, lettuce, onions, shallots and courgettes. Many of the other gardeners at the allotments in Newtownards are beginners like us, others have years of experience which they are very willing to share. It is also reassuring to see that even the experts get problems with cabbage fly. If you have any advice, guidance, or tips for amateur vegetable gardners - Please post it here.

Sailing Around Ireland

Norman Gray a resident of Cove Bay is setting off on early Thursday morning 14th June 2007, for a month long sail around Ireland in his "unsinkable" 30 ft yacht Bentim Buoys.
Norman and his crew John Campbell, William Skelly, and Adrian Watson are all retired, and see this trip as a great adventure. All on board are experienced sailors, and looking forward to sailing new horizons. Their route is clockwise around Ireland, taking full advantage of the tides. The seas around Ireland are not easy sailing, and the Atlantic weather will decide their speed.
We hope to keep in touch with the "Bentim Buoys" during the voyage, and report on their progress. Bon Voyage!
